Information about the ‘pocong robber terror’ that went viral on social media and drew public attention has been confirmed as false or a hoax by Cirebon City Police (Polresta Cirebon). Cirebon City Police Chief Commissioner Imara Utama stated that no reports or incidents related to the rumour have been received or found in the area. Authorities have also conducted checks and found no evidence of a ‘pocong terror’ as widely discussed online. ‘We urge residents to remain calm and not readily believe information without clear sources or verification,’ he said on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. Imara added that the public should exercise caution when dealing with viral posts to avoid spreading misinformation that could cause public unrest. He also urged residents to contact police hotline 110 if they notice suspicious activity in their neighbourhood, assuring that officers would respond to verify any reports. ‘Spreading false information on social media could cause panic if not promptly corrected,’ he said. Therefore, Polresta Cirebon continues to encourage the public to verify information before believing or sharing it with others. ‘We stress that security in Cirebon Regency remains safe, and residents are urged not to be provoked by unverified claims,’ he added.
