Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, has revealed that a significant portion of Indonesia’s population still lacks housing, resulting in a substantial housing backlog. Nationally, the percentage of the population without homes is around 13%, with Jakarta having the highest rate at 40.59%.”Nationally, the housing backlog or the percentage of the population without homes reaches 13%; the highest compared to other provinces is DKI Jakarta, with a housing non-ownership backlog of 40.59%,” Amalia stated during a press conference at the SOE Ministry on Wednesday (1/4/2026).She detailed that within Jakarta, the area with the highest backlog is Central Jakarta at 55.83%, meaning 146,729 households there do not own homes.”Breaking it down further, among the cities in Jakarta, the highest backlog is in Central Jakarta, where 55.83% of households do not own homes, or in other words, around 146,729 households in Central Jakarta do not have homes,” she explained.Therefore, interventions are needed to help the population, especially in Central Jakarta, obtain housing.”This requires intervention from the government, and currently, it is being carried out by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, to make it more targeted, and of course, so that the community can have their own place to live,” she clarified.
