Jakarta, Kompas.com – Rest areas (tempat istirahat dan pelayanan/TIP) are essential facilities for returning travellers using toll roads, particularly during the Lebaran mudik season.

Their existence serves not only as rest stops but also to meet various needs during long-distance journeys, including the 2026 Lebaran exodus.

According to the official website of Indonesia’s Toll Road Regulatory Authority (BPJT) on Tuesday (17 March 2025), rest areas are divided into three types: Type A, B, and C. These three categories correspond to the different facilities available at each location.

This classification is detailed in Article 8, Paragraph 1, concerning the spacing intervals between TIP facilities in the same direction along toll routes.

By understanding the differences between these rest area types, returning travellers can better plan their rest breaks according to their needs during the journey, ensuring they remain safe and comfortable until reaching their destination.
