Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) has reminded Hajj pilgrims returning from Saudi Arabia to report any cash they are carrying if the value reaches Rp 100 million or more upon entering Indonesia.

Head of Import Section III of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) of the Ministry of Finance, Cindhe Marjuang Praja, explained that this regulation is a mandate from Bank Indonesia’s policy to safeguard and monitor the circulation of cash from abroad.

“The carrying of money is governed by rules entrusted to us by our colleagues at BI, who handle monetary policy to control money circulation. Cash carried into Indonesia must indeed be reported if its value is Rp 100 million or more,” said Cindhe during a media briefing on Thursday (16/4/2026).

She explained that the reports received by Customs will then be forwarded to the relevant authorities, including Bank Indonesia and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).

“If it’s below that amount, there’s no need to report it to Customs,” she emphasised.

For information, the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) has officially carried out the handover of banknotes in Saudi Riyal (SAR) for the living cost needs of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims for the year 1447 H/2026 AD.

This step is a form of BPKH’s commitment to ensuring the financial readiness of pilgrims in a transparent, accountable manner, and in accordance with Sharia principles.

For this year’s Hajj season, BPKH has provided a total of SAR 152,490,000 in banknotes. These funds are channelled through Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) to meet the needs of 203,320 regular Hajj pilgrims.

Each pilgrim is scheduled to receive a living allowance of SAR 750, with the breakdown of denominations as follows:

  • 1 sheet of SAR 500

  • 2 sheets of SAR 100

  • 1 sheet of SAR 50

This pocket money is prepared as operational provisions for pilgrims while in the Holy Land, for additional daily consumption needs, as reserve funds for unexpected expenses, or for fulfilling DAM (Hajj penalty) payment obligations.
