Returning from Bangkok, 10 Indonesians Testing Positive for Drugs Detained by BNN at Soetta

Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN RI) has taken action against ten Indonesian citizens (WNI) who tested positive for drugs, following the development of a case involving two Russian nationals who brought hashish into Bali. “Ten individuals tested positive for narcotic and/or addictive substances based on initial urine tests, including methamphetamine, THC, amphetamine, cocaine, and other substances,” read a BNN statement on Wednesday (10/6/2026). In addition to developing the case of the two Russian nationals, the BNN also received information from Immigration at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The BNN team then monitored the arrival of these Indonesian citizens on a flight from Bangkok on Monday (8/6) at around 21.00 Western Indonesia Time. Officers initially identified 14 Indonesian passengers for further examination. Four others tested negative for drugs based on urine test results. The ten passengers who tested positive had the initials M.M, FR, GAS, MA, ASM, DP, HP, MI, AN, and RA. The ten individuals were then taken to the BNN RI Office. “During the baggage inspection, officers found 22 grams of powder suspected to be ketamine in a suitcase belonging to HP. Ketamine is not classified as a narcotic, but officers are still conducting further investigation and laboratory tests,” the statement said. After an assessment and case review, they were categorised as light users or first-time experimenters. The course of action taken is outpatient rehabilitation at the BNN RI Cawang IPWL Clinic, accompanied by a mandatory reporting obligation. On Wednesday (10/6) at 07.30 WIB yesterday, the users were allowed to return home with the condition of following the rehabilitation programme and mandatory reporting. Head of BNN RI, Suyudi Ario Seto, asserted that this operation is a tangible form of the state’s presence in protecting the public from the threat of narcotics. “Saving Indonesia’s generation from narcotics is a noble cause and the responsibility of all elements of the nation,” said Commissioner General Suyudi. The Head of BNN also appreciated the synergy with Immigration, Customs and Excise, and the National Police. Going forward, BNN will strengthen early detection, surveillance of people and goods at borders, and integrated operations with relevant ministries and agencies to realise a drug-free Indonesia. The Sequential Operation “Sapu Bersih Narkotika” was conducted in an integrated manner at the International Arrivals Terminal of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Monday (8/6). This joint operation involving the Deputy for Eradication of BNN RI, the Directorate General of Immigration, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, and the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police was carried out ahead of International Anti-Narcotics Day 2026 as an effort to tighten supervision of the nation’s entry points.
