SEMARANG, KOMPAS.com – The large wave of holidaymakers returning towards Jakarta has entered its peak phase. At exactly 14.25 WIB today, Tuesday (24/3/2026), the police officially implemented national traffic engineering in the form of a one-way scheme. This one-way scheme stretches from KM 414 at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate on the Batang-Semarang section to KM 70 on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road. The ceremonial flag-off at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate was led directly by the National Police Chief General Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo along with cabinet ministers, marking the start of a major operation to clear vehicle volume from Central Java towards the capital. “This engineering is an anticipatory step to ensure the return flow remains smooth. We ask road users entering the one-way lane to maintain their physical condition and keep their vehicles in top shape,” emphasised Rivan. Given that the scheme uses the full width of the road, Jasa Marga has issued strict instructions to drivers. In addition, drivers are advised to use the left shoulder if experiencing emergencies, and strictly prohibited from stopping on the right shoulder (fast lane in the opposite direction). Before the national one-way was implemented, the police and Jasa Marga had carried out a series of local engineering since Monday (23/3/2026). Road clearing was done gradually from the Pejagan-Pemalang section to Semarang-Solo to ensure the routes are ready to fully accommodate spillover traffic from the east. The public is advised to utilise the Work From Anywhere (WFA) period on 25-27 March. Jasa Marga is offering incentives in the form of a 30% toll discount applicable on 26-27 March 2026 on nine strategic routes. This strategy is expected to distribute the traffic load more evenly, making the journey home more humane and avoiding stagnation on the main routes.
