Return Traffic Increases, Open-Close System Implemented on Cipali Toll Road
Up to this afternoon, the number of vehicles from holidaymakers heading back to Jakarta and its surroundings continues to show an increase on the Cipali toll road. Traffic engineering in the form of one-way operation on the toll road during the return flow of Eid al-Fitr 2026 is still being implemented.
According to data from Astra Tol Cipali, the toll operator, from 00:00 to 17:00 WIB on H+2 Eid al-Fitr, around 74,000 vehicles have passed through the former Cikopo Toll Gate towards Jakarta, or about 92% compared to the same period the previous day. “Although vehicles continue to increase, the implementation of one-way traffic engineering can keep traffic flowing smoothly and under control,” said Ardam Rafif Trisilo, Head of Sustainability Management & Corporate Communications Department at Astra Tol Cipali, on Tuesday (24/3).
Even though it is smooth, congestion still occurs, particularly at rest areas. To ensure the comfort of road users in utilising rest facilities, Astra Tol Cipali, together with the regional police, is implementing a situational open-close system at all rest areas on the Cipali toll road. This policy applies to Rest Area KM 86, 102, 130, and 166 on the one-way lane, as well as Rest Area KM 164, 130, 101, and 77 on the normal lane.
If a rest area is observed to be full, road users are advised not to stop on the shoulder of the road or force themselves to queue on the main lane before entering the rest area, as this can cause traffic slowdowns.
“As an alternative, road users can rest at the next rest area or utilise rest spots outside the nearest toll gate. We guarantee that the total accumulated toll fee remains the same even if road users exit and re-enter the toll gate for resting,” said Ardam.
Furthermore, Astra Tol Cipali urges all road users to always prioritise safety, maintain a safe distance between vehicles, and comply with instructions from on-site officers during the traffic engineering period. “We also urge not to stop on the shoulder of the road except in emergency conditions,” said Ardam.
