Retno retains lead despite poor play

Heavy drizzle throughout the night on Thursday that turned the Palembang Golf Club into a quagmire in some areas on Friday and leader Retno Mustari of Jakarta lost ground, but still leads.

None of the 152 golfers in the field on the second day of the Indonesia Ladies Amateur Open Championships in Palembang managed to shoot under par.

Retno, the leader after the first round by six shots on Thursday, was just barely able to maintain her lead on Friday. The leading Indonesian amateur player finished with a 7-over 79 for a two-day total score of three-over 147 (68 79).

Retno suffered through a triple bogey on the 16th when her drive hit a tree and went off the fairway into the wet, deep rough.

Two strokes behind Retno is Ani Iman, playing for Pelita Harapan golf club from Banten, and now in second place after carding a total score of 149 (75 74).

Relegated from second place on Thursday was India's Vandana Awargal when she did the same as Retno with a 79 to make it 153 (74 79) after two rounds of play. She is tied in third place. Neneng Karwati from the Jagorawi Golf and Country Club shares third after shooting 153 (75 78).

In the Team Gross 36 holes event, the Pelita Harapan Team from Banten led by Ani Iman took the lead after carding a total score of 153. The other players on the team are Jamilah and Retno Soedjasmin.

Team Singapore Island Golf and Country Club made up of Belinda Young, Kristie Koh and Melissa Loh are second with a score of 156. Third was the Jagorawi Golf and Country Club team with Diana Suwandi, Neneng Karwati and Rieke Michelson after carding a 161.
