JAKARTA — The General Criminal Affairs Director of the Jakarta Metro Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanudin, stated that the killer of retired Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) executive Ermanto Usman committed the act purely for robbery purposes.

The suspect, Sudirman (28), stole to sustain his daily living.

“The suspect’s motive was purely economic,” Iman said during a press conference on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

When Sudirman successfully entered Ermanto’s home, his presence was discovered by the victim’s wife, Pasmilawati (60), who switched on the lights and was preparing for sahur (pre-dawn meal during Ramadan).

Startled, Sudirman immediately struck Pasmilawati’s head with a crowbar he was holding. He also used the crowbar to hit Ermanto, who had just woken up.

“The suspect was startled. So the suspect spontaneously swung the crowbar, which he had previously used to prise open the window,” Iman explained.

Sudirman had frequently committed thefts in the Bekasi area. He selected Ermanto’s home because it appeared to be the most luxurious residence in the vicinity.

After incapacitating Ermanto and his wife, Sudirman seized two mobile phones, one laptop, several items of jewellery, and a bag containing car keys.

Sudirman was subsequently arrested at his residence in Cilincing, North Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Previously, it was reported that the robbery at Ermanto’s and his wife’s home resulted in fatality.

When discovered, Ermanto was found on the bed covered in blood, whilst Pasmilawati lay on the bedroom floor.

Ermanto died at the scene, whilst his wife remained in critical condition and continued to receive intensive hospital care.

Initial medical examination revealed that both had suffered injuries from blunt force trauma to the back of the head.
