Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – A retired civil servant with the initials PJ (60) has officially been named a suspect in a cat-kicking case on Saturday (14/2). The act of kicking a cat to death at Kridosono Field in Blora, Central Java, was committed by the suspect on Sunday (25/1). The death of the cat named Mintel was only discovered several days after the incident, on Wednesday (28/1).

“The current development is that investigators, based on the results of a case review, have named PJ as a suspect,” Blora Police Chief AKBP Wawan Andi Susanto said, as reported by detikJateng on Saturday (14/2).

PJ has been charged under Article 337 paragraph 1 letter a of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on the criminal offense of animal abuse. Police have also examined 10 witnesses.

“The article charged is Article 337 paragraph 1 letter a of the Criminal Code,” he explained.

In addition to evidence from the cat’s owner, several pieces of evidence from the suspect have also been secured, including the shoes used for the kicking and the clothing worn at the time.

“Ortuseight brand shoes, gray training pants, a black sling bag, a maroon t-shirt, and a yellow cap with red accents,” Wawan detailed.

Previously, a viral video circulated on social media showing someone forcefully kicking a cat while jogging on a field. The video was uploaded to the Instagram account @faridaarz.

After kicking the cat, the man in an orange shirt—now the suspect—continued his jogging activity. The cat’s owner, named Farida, subsequently claimed her cat died after being kicked by the man.

Police quickly investigated the perpetrator’s identity, who turned out to be PJ, a resident of Karang Jati. PJ is a former civil servant in the Blora government.

During the investigation process, PJ visited the cat owner’s home to apologize and offered a replacement in the form of a Persian cat. However, the offer was rejected by the cat’s owner.

“At the time, he said he would prepare a Persian cat. But from our side, from the family, we clearly refused. Because we don’t want a replacement cat. We want accountability,” said the cat owner’s younger sister, Firda Latifah, on Friday (6/2).
