Retail Investors Urged Not to Rely on Outdated Data in the Stock Market

Retail investors in Indonesia’s stock market are urged to stop relying on outdated data for investment decisions, as market dynamics grow increasingly rapid, complex, and influenced by global institutional movements. The choice of stock trading application is considered a crucial factor for investors in making accurate and measured decisions.

For novice investors, understanding the difference between broker summaries and fundamental research is key to avoiding entrapment in misleading information, particularly that often exploited by certain parties through delayed market data.

The phenomenon of retail investors relying on invalid sources, such as community euphoria or mere broker summaries, still occurs frequently. This often leads to panic selling when the market reverses direction.

“Many investors feel they are following the movements of big players, but in reality, they are only reacting to past data that is already lagging,” said Chief Marketing Officer of PT Indo Premier Sekuritas (IPOT), Sergio Ticoalu, in an official statement, quoted on Tuesday (31/3).

Support from market intelligence systems is seen as enabling investors to make more precise decisions with better-managed risks, rather than solely relying on community-based narrative approaches.

To bridge the gap between retail investors and institutions, IPOT provides IPOT Views, a research platform with institutional-grade standards. This platform is designed so that retail investors can access analysis equivalent to that used by asset management firms, covering fundamental approaches, macroeconomics, and market structures. The presence of this feature is expected to make research the primary foundation for investment decisions, not just a supplement.

In addition to research aspects, infrastructure strength is also a focus. With managed funds of around Rp312 trillion, IPOT offers various features, such as xRDN which allows idle funds to remain productive, live trading indicators based on real-time data, and multi-layered security systems to protect investor assets.

On the other hand, many retail investors are still unaware that broker summaries are recaps of transactions only available after the market closes. This data is often repackaged in various communities as signals of big player activity to encourage massive retail buying actions.

“Relying on delayed data in a fast-moving market is a significant risk, especially without support from comprehensive fundamental analysis and research,” said Sergio.

Therefore, real-time data transparency and deeper understanding of analysis become essential so that investors do not merely serve as liquidity providers for large market players. He urged investors not to make decisions based solely on community trends or the illusion of broker summaries, but to start utilising accurate and structured research.
