Retail Investors Flood In, BEI Chief Optimistic About Stock Market Growth
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - BEI’s PJS President Director, Jeffrey Hendrik, said that they remain highly optimistic that Indonesia’s stock market can grow in 2026. This is not without reason, as he sees the trend of investment among young people continuing to rise, with growth persisting since the Covid-19 pandemic. “During two years of Covid, the number of investors grew from 4-5 million to 10 million. But when compared with 2020 to now, the figure of 10 million has become 27.4 million. In five years there has been an increase of more than 17 million, or more than doubling,” he said at the Jogja Financial Festival 2026 on Saturday (23/5/2026). The achievement, he continued, signals that the public is becoming more knowledgeable about investing in the stock market. It aligns with Indonesia’s economic movements. If broken down, last year’s addition of new investors was only 2.5 million. “That means optimism and confidence remain in Indonesia’s stock market,” he stated. Jeffrey noted that one of BEI’s missions is to boost stock market literacy in Indonesia. Currently BEI collaborates with more than 1,000 universities in Indonesia to establish investment galleries. In addition, BEI regularly runs stock market schools both online and offline.
