Retail and MSMEs Drive Surge in Inter-Regional Logistics
Jakarta, VIVA – Digital technology advancements are reshaping how businesses manage goods distribution. Amid rising trade activity and demand for faster deliveries, app-based logistics services are increasingly being utilised to support cross-regional business operations.
This trend is evident in the growing use of long-distance delivery services, which are seen as more practical and flexible, particularly for retail and wholesale businesses. Digital logistics also helps businesses cut operational costs without expanding their own vehicle fleets.
Lalamove Indonesia reported a 47% year-on-year growth in long-distance deliveries between January and April 2026 compared to the same period last year. This growth indicates rising demand for inter-regional distribution as business mobility increases.
The company states that long-distance delivery services are now a key logistics solution for businesses to enhance operational efficiency. Using these services helps reduce costs such as fuel, vehicle maintenance, and internal fleet management.
“The growth in long-distance deliveries shows that logistics needs are evolving, not just for instant city deliveries but also to support inter-regional distribution more efficiently,” said Andito B. Prakoso, Managing Director of Lalamove Indonesia, according to a press release on Thursday, 28 May 2026.
According to internal company data, 78% of long-distance deliveries are within the 50-80km range, while 9% cover 80-100km and 13% exceed 100km.
The most frequently used delivery routes are Jakarta-Tangerang City, Jakarta-Cikarang, and Jakarta-Bandung. High distribution activity on these corridors reflects growing logistics demand in major city buffer zones and economic hubs.
Growing trade activity and MSME development across regions are driving increased demand for rapid inter-regional distribution. This has made digital logistics services essential for maintaining supply chain efficiency and timely goods delivery.
