Commission X of the House of Representatives has urged all higher education institutions to commit to eradicating sexual violence in campus environments. This call was made during a closed-door meeting of Commission X with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and four rectors from the University of Indonesia, Padjadjaran University, Bandung Institute of Technology, and Bogor Agricultural Institute on Monday, 20 April 2026.

Deputy Chair of Commission X of the House of Representatives, Maria Yohana Esti Wijayati, stated that the meeting produced conclusions that must be followed by all campuses to create a safe and comfortable environment free from sexual violence. “We demand that this handling be taken very seriously and that such incidents do not recur,” Maria said when met after the meeting at the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Monday.

The politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle added that campuses must continue to monitor the work of the task force for the prevention and handling of sexual violence in higher education environments, or Satgas PPKPT. Commission X of the House of Representatives has asked rectors to provide guidance in the work of Satgas PPKPT.

A series of recent sexual violence cases in the campus environments of UI, ITB, and IPB has convinced Maria that no such incidents should recur. She assessed that this weakens the position of campuses as educational environments that reflect the values of the Eastern nation.

She also stated that regulations on handling sexual violence will be included in Law Number 20 of 2003 on the National Education System (Sisdiknas), which is currently being discussed by Commission X of the House of Representatives.

“We will not stop here. Commission X will oversee this, possibly incorporating it more specifically into the Draft National Education System Law,” Maria said.

Separately, Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Badri Munir Sukoco, said that in the meeting, the government provided clarifications and explanations on handling sexual violence in campus environments.

Badri stated that this year, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology has included indicators for the prevention and handling of sexual violence as a component of the performance evaluation of higher education leaders. This policy is believed to encourage the seriousness of campuses in eradicating sexual violence.

According to him, the Ministry has undertaken preventive efforts in accordance with Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation Number 55 of 2024 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education Environments. He noted that all state universities in Indonesia have Satgas PPKPT, and 65 percent of private universities have them.

“Then, curatively, regarding case handling, both minor, moderate, and severe from those six types of violence, we have also addressed them,” he said at the House of Representatives Complex in Jakarta on Monday, 21 April 2026.
