Restricted traffic zone

Restricted traffic zone

From Neraca

I herewith again inform the Jakarta City administration that
the restricted traffic zone of Jl. Sudirman-Jl. Thamrin between
6:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. has more drawbacks than advantages.

Junior high school children, in the hope of earning Rp 3,000
to Rp 5,000, play hooky and work as three-in-one kids, saying
that the money helps lighten their parents' burden. Their parents
seem to be unaware that they are denying their children the
opportunity to study with better concentration.

Children making several trips during the morning rush hour
also overcrowd city buses even more when they return to their
bases after leaving their clients' cars. The buses operate for
the benefit of workers going to their offices, and not for
shuttling children in the service of motorists who dodge the
traffic ruling.

The Jakarta administration should feel no embarrassment in
revoking the ruling for a minimum of three occupants for each
motor vehicle entering Jl. Sudirman-Jl. Thamrin.
