Restorative Justice Claim: Rismon Sianipar Remains Obliged to Report
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Metro Jaya Police stated that Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, the suspect in the case alleging false diploma charges against Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo, remains obliged to report to authorities despite submitting a request for restorative justice.
According to Metro Jaya Police Public Relations Head Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto in Jakarta on Friday, the suspect must continue to fulfil his reporting obligation, including during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday.
“He can coordinate with the investigator for certain reasons. The reporting obligation is about monitoring a person who holds the status of a suspect,” Hermanto said.
“The investigator will certainly provide room on humanitarian grounds, during major Islamic religious celebrations and for Eid al-Fitr prayers, gathering with family is still permitted,” he added.
However, Hermanto emphasised that the reporting obligation cannot be delegated to anyone, including family members. “It cannot be. The law regarding suspect status cannot be transferred,” he stated.
Nevertheless, the suspect may send a notification letter or communicate via telephone or WhatsApp with clear evidence that can be legally substantiated, demonstrating a particular reason for non-appearance.
Metro Jaya Police confirmed that Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, one of the suspects in the case alleging false diploma allegations against Indonesia’s seventh president Joko Widodo, has requested restorative justice.
“It is true that one of the suspects, RHS, together with his lawyer, visited us today to inquire about developments regarding a letter previously submitted,” said Director of Criminal Investigation Metro Jaya Police Kombes Polisi Iman Imanuddin in Jakarta on Wednesday (11 March).
Iman noted that several days earlier, RHS and his lawyer submitted a request for restorative justice facilitation to the investigators.
