Restaurant Owner Reaches Peace with Couple: I'm No Longer a Suspect, I Forgive
The owner of a restaurant in Kemang, South Jakarta, Nabilah O’Brien, was briefly named a suspect by the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) after uploading CCTV footage of a husband-and-wife duo allegedly stealing food from her establishment. Nabilah and the couple later mediated and reached a peace settlement at the Police Headquarters of the Indonesian National Police (Polri Headquarters).
“I forgive everything, I want to sleep, I want to work, I am no longer a suspect, that is all,” Nabilah told reporters after the mediation at the Polri Headquarters on Sunday, 8 March 2026.
Nabilah had previously reported the couple to Mampang Police Station over the incident. The report has since been withdrawn following the settlement.
“I forgive 100 percent, yes (the report has been withdrawn) I want to sleep because” she said.
Earlier, the police disclosed the latest developments in the mutual-complaint case between the couple and Nabilah O’Brien. The case ended with a peace agreement and mutual withdrawal of police reports.
According to the briefing at the mediation ceremony, four parties — Mr Z and his wife Ms ES, and Ms NA and Mr KDH — were present and signed a peace agreement. The parties also agreed to delete the related content from their social media accounts as part of the settlement.
The incident occurred on Thursday, 19 September 2025, at Nabilah O’Brien’s restaurant. CCTV footage of the alleged theft circulated widely on social media.
The couple, Z and E, had ordered 11 dishes and three drinks worth a total of IDR 530,150. They reportedly felt their order had taken too long and subsequently entered the kitchen to take the food they had ordered.
“So they complained to our staff with all the dynamics involved,” said the restaurant’s lawyer, Eishen Simatupang, at Mampang Police Station, as reported by Antara on Friday, 26 September 2025.
The couple then left the restaurant without paying for the meals and drinks. Nabilah O’Brien later filed a police report. The report was registered under LP/B/048/IX/2025/SPKT/Polsek Mampang/Polres Metro Jaksel/Polda Metro Jaya. The report was filed after a somation issued to the respondent went unaddressed.
The couple also reported Nabilah to Dittipidsiber at Bareskrim Polri for the upload of the video showing Z and E at the restaurant during the alleged theft.
