REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), Dino Patti Djalal, has reminded the Indonesian Government to act cautiously when making decisions on cooperation. This includes controls on airspace overflights with the United States (US). “I also see the response from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), which states that this is not yet final, still a draft. So, the main point is that we must be careful with things like this. We shouldn’t give the impression that we immediately approve everything the Americans request,” said Dino when met on the sidelines of the Middle Power Conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (14/4/2026). Dino explained that in making policies, the Government should not adopt appeasement policies. That is, diplomatic policies that provide concessions or leniency to aggressive countries to avoid armed conflict or war. “For middle power countries, the important thing is not to adopt appeasement policies. Appeasement means agreeing to all the rights they propose to avoid pressure,” Dino clarified. Therefore, Dino once again reminded the Government to be very careful to remain under observation. “The Government must be extremely careful. Every country will try something. We must be careful. We shouldn’t just be caught off guard,” he said.
