The plan for a demonstration to be held by the Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu (AMPB) in front of the DPR/MPR/DPD RI building on 27 August has drawn a response from student circles.

The BEM Persatuan se-DKI Jakarta alliance has urged the demonstrators to prioritise dialogical methods in conveying their aspirations.

The Coordinator of BEM Persatuan se-DKI Jakarta and President of BEM Universitas Ibnu Chaldun Jakarta, Ikhsan Buyung Kalean, stated that every expression of aspirations must be carried out objectively and responsibly while considering the common interest.

“We consider it important to convey our stance objectively, proportionally, and based on democratic principles that uphold rights, responsibilities, and the common interest,” he said in the Rawamangun area of East Jakarta on Monday, 24 August 2026.

Ikhsan also reminded that freedom of expression should not undermine the democratic climate itself. He encouraged all parties to maintain order.

“We invite all parties to prioritise constructive dialogue, mutual respect for differing views, and to safeguard the democratic space so that it remains a dignified means of conveying ideas oriented towards the national interest,” said Ikhsan.

As a demonstration of their attention to these dynamics, the BEM Persatuan se-DKI Jakarta alliance officially released a five-point statement of position regarding the planned AMPB action. The following is the complete stance of the BEM Persatuan se-DKI Jakarta alliance:

  1. Upholding democratic rights and civic responsibility:

We respect the right of every citizen to express opinions in public as guaranteed by the constitution and legislation.

The expression of aspirations is an important part of a healthy democratic life. Therefore, every form of expression of opinion should be carried out in an orderly, peaceful, and responsible manner while taking into account the interests of the wider community and public order.

We invite all parties to prioritise constructive dialogue, mutual respect for differing views, and to safeguard the democratic space so that it remains a dignified means of conveying ideas oriented towards the national interest.

  1. Encouraging inclusive and proportional expression of aspirations:

In democratic life, every community group has the same right to convey views and aspirations in accordance with the interests they champion.
