Respect pedestrians!
Respect pedestrians!
From Pikiran Rakyat
Although I am not motorist, I want to have the same rights as other road users. Everyday on my way home after work I have to cross the street at the traffic lights on Jl. Kopo. All pedestrians are supposed to be able to cross the street there freely and without fear. But in reality, crossing the street is surprisingly dangerous. While crossing the street when the light for traffic is red, a vehicle may came speeding at you quite unexpectedly.
I wonder whether some motorists are ignorant of the meaning of a red light. Or they believe that they alone have the right to use the road.
It is even more shocking when a person driving a car with red number plates (government car) behaves carelessly. They are supposed to be more disciplined than others and thus should be able to respect pedestrians. Imagine if because of their irresponsible driving they hit a small child, pregnant woman, or elderly person!
Discipline and mental attitudes should come out of social awareness and should not be solely governed by the presence of police on public roads.
