Resilient Maung MV3: Prabowo's Vehicle Taken to Indonesia's Outermost Island
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto used the Maung MV3 Tangguh during a working visit to Miangas Island, North Sulawesi, Indonesia’s outermost territory directly bordering the Philippines, on Saturday (9/5/2026). Unlike previous state agendas, Prabowo did not use the white Maung Garuda typically associated with the presidential vehicle. Instead, the Head of State was seen riding the Maung MV3 Tangguh, which has a more utilitarian and military-inspired appearance. The choice of vehicle is considered appropriate for the geographical conditions of Miangas Island, which has limited road access and challenging terrain. In terms of design, the Maung MV3 Tangguh features an all-boxy body, high ground clearance, and a robust posture. According to official specifications, the vehicle uses a 4x4 drivetrain configuration with a capacity to carry four personnel. Its dimensions are 5 metres in length, 2 metres in width, and 1.8 metres in height. For performance, the Maung MV3 Tangguh is equipped with 199 HP of power and a peak torque of 411 Nm, delivered through an automatic transmission. The vehicle is claimed to reach a maximum speed of 100 km per hour. Additionally, the Maung MV3 Tangguh has a range of up to 500 km and a combat weight of around 3 tonnes. To support operations, the vehicle is also fitted with an electric winch, air conditioning, and a spare tyre. Besides the Tangguh variant with an open roof, the Maung MV3 line is also available in the Komando model with a hard top configuration and the Jelajah variant with a soft top roof. For the unit used by the President, the vehicle is estimated to have received additional customisations compared to the standard version. The use of the Maung MV3 Tangguh on Miangas Island also illustrates the capability of domestically produced vehicles in supporting mobility in Indonesia’s frontline regions with challenging terrain.
