Resilience Against Potential Disasters Becomes Priority, PRR Task Force Ensures Infrastructure Recovery Continues Apace
The Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Sumatra Disaster continues to expedite infrastructure repairs to restore connectivity for disaster survivors that was previously disrupted by hydrometeorological disasters in the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar). This initiative is being carried out through the repair of national and regional roads and bridges, aiming to revive the vital arteries of social and economic activities for survivors while ensuring uninterrupted distribution of logistics supplies in the three affected areas. Based on data from the PRR Task Force as of 18 April, national and regional roads in the three provinces have been restored to functional status. In Aceh, all 46 damaged national roads and 23 national bridges are now operational. Additionally, 1,521 out of 1,638 regional road points and 351 out of 652 regional bridges are also functional. Meanwhile, in Sumut, all 30 damaged national roads and 7 national bridges are operational. Furthermore, 607 out of 616 regional road points and 343 out of 366 regional bridges are usable again. In Sumbar, all 31 damaged national roads and 13 national bridges are accessible once more. Meanwhile, 149 out of 167 regional road points and 97 out of 163 regional bridges are now functional. Chair of the PRR Task Force Post-Sumatra Disaster, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, emphasised that the reconstruction of connectivity-supporting infrastructure is the top priority in post-disaster handling in Sumatra. He added that the next steps involve upgrading roads and bridges from merely functional to permanent status. Tito also expressed appreciation to the ranks of TNI/Polri, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and the Ministry of Public Works (PU) for their relentless efforts in ensuring that connectivity-supporting infrastructure in the three affected areas returns to normal. “The work (repairing infrastructure) on roads continues. I truly appreciate the efforts of TNI/Polri who do not stop, then BNPB all moving, and the Minister of PU (Dody Hanggodo) is also extraordinary,” said Tito during a press conference following the Coordination Meeting of the PRR Task Force’s Steering Team at the Complex of the Ministry of National Development Planning and Human Development, Jakarta, on Monday (6/4/2026).
