Residents warned of bogus officials

JAKARTA: Residents constructing their houses are warned not to fall victim to bogus public order officials who may extort money from people who can't produce construction permits.

The latest case happened in Bojong Rawa Buaya area of Cengkareng district, West Jakarta, involving a bogus public order official calling himself Bagio, who tried to extort money from a resident who failed to show his building construction permit.

"We don't have any public order official with the name Bagio here," said head of the public order section at Cengkareng District office, Suhaimi Gaos told city-owned www.beritajakarta.com online news provider, on Thursday.

"This is not the first report as we have received similar reports in the past. The public should be more careful when dealing with people claiming to be public order officials," he added.

Suhaimi also urged the residents not to give any public order officials money. --JP
