Residents Voice Impressions and Hopes for Welfare During May Day
Jakarta (ANTARA) - During the International Labour Day or May Day celebrations, several residents voiced their impressions and hopes for welfare-enhancing programmes, ranging from expanding job opportunities, free health checks (CKG), to free education.
“Hopefully it gets better. If possible, create more jobs for people to work, create employment opportunities,” said a cadre of the Family Empowerment and Welfare (PKK) from Pamijahan, Bogor, Uwen, while attending the International Labour Day celebration at Monas, Jakarta, on Friday.
Uwen stated that among the various government programmes available, she is grateful for the Free Health Check (CKG) in her village.
On the same occasion, a neighbourhood association head from Pamijahan, Bogor, Neni, said she hopes for the presence of free education in her area, such as Sekolah Rakyat.
Meanwhile, one of the online motorcycle taxi driver partners, Aditya Muhammad, said that such policies are good for workers, including himself as an online transportation worker.
He admitted to benefiting from the CKG programme and hopes it improves further. “Hopefully it keeps advancing, great. Anyway, keep the spirit!”
In the International Labour Day celebration, President Prabowo Subianto stated that he always feels supported by the working class and labourers. The President emphasised that he will strive to improve the welfare of all Indonesian people, especially those whose lives are still difficult.
“I feel that the working class has always supported me several times and I feel like I became President because of the support from the working class, farmers, fishermen, and all Indonesian workers,” said Prabowo in his speech at the peak of the 2026 International Labour Day celebration or May Day at the National Monument area, Jakarta, on Friday morning.
“And I am determined, I swear to fight for the interests of all Indonesian people and especially those whose lives are still difficult,” he added.
Prabowo said that the 1 May commemoration is a day of struggle for the working class worldwide. On that occasion, he expressed thanks for the invitation to join the workers in this momentum.
