Residents urged to register land
JAKARTA (JP): West Jakarta Mayor Sutardjianto yesterday urged residents of Wijayakusuma subdistrict to process their land deeds at the regional office of the National Land Agency.
Representatives of 55 Wijayakusuma residents came to the mayoralty to report that the Supreme Court had ruled in their favor in the seven-year land dispute against Gunawan Kurniadi, who claimed to be the legitimate owner of the land.
At the meeting with the mayor, who was accompanied by chairman of the Law and Organization Agency, Roefilan Djafrie, the residents expressed their gratitude towards the Supreme Court's ruling.
"The mayor urges us to process the land certificates at the West Jakarta office of the land agency as soon as possible," said Syamsurizal Yahya, a representative of the residents.
He said that the mayor will order the land agency to help speed up the processing of the documents.
The land dispute arose in 1988 when Gunawan Kurniadi, based on a local district court decision which stated he was the legitimate owner, wanted to clear the 44-hectare Wijayakusuma residential area.
The residents, however, were strongly against the eviction order and opposed Gunawan through a lengthy trial, which was eventually taken to the Supreme Court. (29)
