Residents Urged to Maximise WFA to Avoid Traffic Congestion During Return Flow
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The public is urged to maximise the flexibility of Work from Anywhere (WFA), or working from anywhere, to avoid traffic congestion during the return flow. Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the peak of the Eid al-Fitr return flow is predicted to occur on 24, 28, and 29 March 2026. The minister requested that society maximise the WFA period implemented by the government to alleviate traffic density. “The public can maximise the WFA period enforced by the government on 25, 26, and 27 March 2026 to avoid vehicle build-up on the Trans-Java Toll Road,” said the minister when implementing the national one-way system alongside the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Pratikno and several other officials at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate, Semarang, Central Java, on Tuesday (24/3). The Ministry of Transportation predicts that vehicles heading to Jakarta on 24 March 2026 will reach 285,000 vehicles. Therefore, at the discretion of the police, a national one-way system will be implemented from KM 414 at Kalikangkung Toll Gate to KM 70 at Cikampek Utara Toll Gate. “The volume of vehicles heading towards Jakarta shows a significant increase. The implementation of the national one-way traffic engineering is expected to facilitate the public in returning to their hometowns,” the minister explained. The minister also conveyed that to alleviate density on the Trans-Java Toll Road sections, the Rest Area at KM 52B on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road has been temporarily closed. As an alternative, the minister advised mudik travellers to utilise other rest areas such as KM 42B and KM 19B. “Before travelling, I urge the public to check the time and routes for dynamic traffic engineering implementations from the police. The public can use the Travoy application or through the Jasa Marga Call Centre,” the minister stated.
