Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have called on residents to help maintain cleanliness at public facilities and communal areas across DKI Jakarta through the ASRI (Safe, Healthy, Clean and Beautiful) campaign.

“We are inviting everyone to work together to maintain the cleanliness of public and communal areas,” said Jakarta Metropolitan Police Public Relations Chief Commissioner Budi Hermanto, accompanied by North Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner Erick Frendriz, whilst cleaning the area beneath the Sungai Bambu toll road overpass in Jakarta on Thursday.

He said the national ASRI campaign is an ongoing agenda for environmental maintenance that needs to be carried out continuously.

“This needs to be sustained — not just carried out today but continued every week, every month, and must be implemented on an ongoing basis,” he said.

The parties involved in the initiative include the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), the North Jakarta Municipal Government, community members, religious leaders, and youth figures from the Environmental Agency, Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Water Resources division, and local administrative offices.

“This is a moral movement for us all to mobilise community elements, because a healthy and clean life is a necessity for our existence,” he said.

Commissioner Budi said the initiative is not confined to a single area but spans all jurisdictions.

He noted that Polda Metro Jaya covers 13 areas, with police chiefs including those in Bekasi, Depok, Tangerang and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

“All areas outside DKI are participating. This is a national movement — every police regional command across Indonesia down to the smallest level, the sub-district police, is involved,” he said.

He added that through a telegram directive, the National Police Chief has ordered all personnel to maintain office cleanliness for one hour before work each day.

Every week, officers are required to participate in cleaning their residential neighbourhoods, drainage systems and other areas.

Additionally, every month there is a clean-up of public facilities such as mosques, prayer halls, and similar venues, as was carried out on Thursday.

“We want these public spaces to be better and more comfortable for the community to use,” he said.
