Residents Urged to Install Double Locks on Motorbikes
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police are urging residents to install double locks or additional padlocks on their motorbikes when parked at home or in public places.
“The use of double locks does not completely guarantee security, but at least it can hinder and make it more difficult for motorbike thieves,” said Tambora Police Chief AKP Wahyu Hidayat in Jakarta, Thursday.
The appeal was made following a theft incident that occurred against a resident of Jembatan 2, Pejagalan on Monday (23/2).
The victim was fortunate that the vehicle was found and eventually returned by the police.
“We also remind the public to park their vehicles in safe and easily monitored places,” Wahyu continued.
However, when he returned, the motorbike was no longer there, having been stolen.
Wahyu said the motorbike was found the next day, Tuesday (24/2) at around 07:00 WIB, parked in a suspicious manner on Jalan Terate Gang II, Jembatan Lima Village, Tambora District, West Jakarta.
“At that time, the Tambora Police’s Buser team was patrolling the area,” he said.
After coordinating with the local RW chairman and asking residents around, it turned out that no one recognized the vehicle.
The officers immediately contacted Tedy to bring proof of ownership in the form of a vehicle registration certificate (BPKB), vehicle registration (STNK), and vehicle keys. After verification, the motorbike was officially returned to its owner.
