Residents Urge Government to Improve Rawa Malang Reservoir: Building It Like This Is Just a Waste
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Residents are urging the government to improve the condition of the Rawa Malang Reservoir in Semper Timur, Cilincing, North Jakarta, so that the area can be utilised optimally.
Saddam, a resident of Rawa Malang Village and administrator of RT 09 RW 10 in Semper Timur, hopes the government will pay more attention to the reservoir’s condition.
“Our hope is that the government, from the provincial level or the city mayor’s level, can pay attention to this area so that these facilities can be more effective in their use for the community,” he said when met by Kompas.com at the location on Monday (20/4/2026).
“Actually, if it’s functioned as a tourist spot like this, it could be an attraction for a new tourist destination, especially in Semper Timur Ward or Cilincing Ward. There’s a reservoir like this, which could be a new tourism potential,” he added.
“If it’s just built like this and left unused, it’s wasteful,” he continued.
“If it’s improved, it can be used for jogging, children’s play, instead of going far away,” he added when met by Kompas.com on Monday.
He further stated that the reservoir also has the potential to become a business location for residents if it becomes crowded with visitors.
“Yes, then it will be busy for business, open the front gate of the reservoir, it can be closed as long as there’s a road later,” he said.
“The reservoir is well maintained by a third party, the service provider contracted with the Water Resources Agency (Dinas SDA), as it is still in the maintenance period,” he explained to Kompas.com via WhatsApp message on Monday.
He added that after the maintenance period ends, the management of the reservoir will be continued by the government.
“After the maintenance period by the provider is completed, the government will carry out further management,” he added.
