Residents sue S. Jakarta mayor

JAKARTA (JP): South Jakarta residents of Pesanggrahan
subdistrict filed a lawsuit with the Jakarta Administrative Court
against the South Jakarta mayor over a land compensation dispute
Tuesday.

"We will process the case as soon as possible," a source at
the court office told The Jakarta Post by phone yesterday.

Opting to represent themselves in the trial, the hundreds of
residents will be represented by three people, one of which is a
reporter for the Antara news agency.

Earlier this month, 290 of the 300 families evicted from the
Pesanggrahan subdistrict refused the city's offered amount of
compensation for their land. Their land is to be used for an
outer ring road around the southern part of Jakarta.

The residents, who possess land certificates, asked for Rp
500,000 per square meter but were offered only Rp 275,000 by the
city.(14)
