Residents See Man Carrying a Bag Before Baby Found in a Nasi Uduk Cart in South Jakarta
A baby girl was found inside a nasi uduk cart in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta. A witness at the scene said she had briefly seen an adult man carrying a large black tote bag walking past her house.
The witness, Atik (53), lives directly next to Marlina’s nasi uduk cart. Their house is located on a dead-end alley.
Atik was using her phone with the door open when she noticed someone passing by, especially since the alley is a dead end.
“I was sitting there on my phone, and a man passed by carrying a dark bag. I just thought he was sending a package; our neighbours often order packages. I didn’t ask him anything,” Atik said when interviewed at her home on Thursday (5/3/2026).
Atik did not pay much attention to the person, thinking he was delivering a package. However, she did not hear him knock on the door or call the house owner.
“But usually when there is a package they call out, ‘Package!’ Not this time,” she explained.
From her recollection, she saw the man around 17:00 WIB. It was only later that she noticed the discovery of the baby around 17:30 WIB.
“In the late afternoon, around nearly 5 o’clock. Then around 6 o’clock someone cried out that they found a baby there,” she said.
Baby and Note Found
Earlier, a baby was found in the Pasar Minggu area, South Jakarta. The infant girl was found alive inside a shopping bag in the cart.
The baby was found on Tuesday (3/3), around 17:30 WIB, in a nasi uduk cart in front of a resident’s house on Jalan Pejaten Raya RT 010 RW 002, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta. A resident who heard crying alerted others.
“Inside the cart, witness Dinda saw a black shopping bag, then saw a baby girl lying on her side wearing a blue bear-themed outfit and wrapped in a baby blanket,” said Pasar Minggu Police Chief Kompol Anggiat Sinambela.
Inside the shopping bag, there were also infant formula, wet wipes, baby gloves, and a scrap of paper with writing on it. Residents cleaned and changed the baby’s diaper.
The baby’s discovery was reported to the Forum Kewaspadaan Dini Masyarakat (FKDM) of Pasar Minggu Sub-district, which was forwarded to the Pasar Minggu Police Sector. The baby is suspected of being abandoned by her parents.
“The baby girl is estimated to be about two days old based on the note written by a person named Zidan, who is suspected of deliberately abandoning the baby at the scene,” she said.
