Residents Scramble for Blanket Aid at Nagekeo Evacuation Post

A number of evacuees at Berdikari Danga field in Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), scrambled for blankets donated by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Friday night (21/8/2026). They appeared pleased as the blankets were distributed.

“Only tonight did we get blankets, so we scrambled for them,” said one evacuee, Ferdinanda Dian, at the local post.

The woman from Marapokot Village, Aesesa District, said evacuees also received mats or floor coverings. Dian was pleased with the aid because until now they had only received basic food packages from volunteers and the government.

“For blankets and mats, we only got them tonight. By our count, we have been displaced for five days and only received them tonight,” explained the woman wearing a grey collared shirt.

Another evacuee, Rofina Nena (31), added that they had also received basic food packages from Raffi Ahmad. She hoped the government would continue to pay attention to and meet these essential needs.

“Going forward, I hope there are no more earthquakes so we can return to our respective homes, and especially that the government continues to look after us,” said the woman who works as a teacher at a junior high school in Nagekeo.

Another evacuee, Yohana Anjelika Seso, expressed a similar sentiment. She admitted that until now she had slept relying only on mats obtained through self-help efforts.

“Earlier we also received blankets and mats. Until now we had only used thin mats, so we are very grateful for tonight’s donation,” Yohana explained.

As previously reported, the basic needs of residents affected by the earthquake who are sheltering at Berdikari Danga field in Mbay, Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), have not been fully met. Evacuees still lack clean water, sleeping mats, baby nappies, and blankets.

At Berdikari Danga field, there are seven main posts occupied by residents from three villages: Tonggurambang, Marapokot, and Nangaero in Aesesa District. A number of evacuees complained that basic needs have not been evenly distributed in the aid distribution process.

“That is what we have not received. We also need clean water and milk for the children,” said one evacuee from Tonggurambang Village, Natalia Muin (56), when met at the evacuation post on Thursday (20/8/2026).
