Residents Say Repairs to Swadaya II Road Are Merely Patchwork, Deteriorate Again in Two Months
JAKARTA - Residents claim that the repairs to Swadaya II Road in Semper Timur, Cilincing, North Jakarta, were merely patchwork, leading to rapid deterioration.
Wulandari (35), a local resident, stated that the road was repaired after media coverage but the fixes did not last long.
“It wasn’t a proper repair, just patching and sticking asphalt on. After the media interview last time, they came to fix it. But after that, it’s like this again (damaged),” she said when met by Kompas.com at the location on Tuesday (7/4/2026).
“Yes, it was repaired. It was successful for a bit, there was a change. But about two months (after the repair) it became like this again (damaged). It only lasted two months,” she added.
According to Wulandari, the current condition of the road is even worse than before, with potholes scattered almost along the entire stretch.
“This is the worst. Because from the front to the back. Even up to the edge of the canal,” she said.
She explained that the road damage is worsened by heavy rain and frequent flooding in the area.
“Yes, they just patched it (the road repair), it wasn’t strong. Because here, when it rains like before Eid, the rain comes continuously, there’s flooding, major flooding up to the main road,” she said.
In agreement, Endang (45), a trader near the location, said the road condition would worsen during floods.
As a trader, she feels disrupted by the damaged road because it affects her vehicle.
She hopes that repairs to Swadaya II Road can be carried out comprehensively soon.
“Yes, hopefully it gets built quickly,” she added.
The Head of the Road, Bridge, and Road Facilities Section of the North Jakarta Road Infrastructure Sub-Department (SDBM), Budi Cahyo Wardoyo, explained that the road section is not owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government but by private entities.
Nevertheless, he revealed that the Road Infrastructure team still assists in repairing the road using scrap materials. However, repair efforts cannot be carried out at this time.
He assured that his team would assist in repairing the road again after the weather conditions are no longer rainy.
“We will follow up on that location after the weather conditions stabilise and scrap materials are available,” he said.
