Residents Say Illegal Dump in Pasar Minggu Used by Outsiders for Waste Disposal
Residents of RT 02/RW008 Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, are complaining about foul odours and rubbish spilling onto the road from an illegal waste disposal site near Pasar Minggu Station. Residents say the site is being used by people from other areas to dump their rubbish.
“The waste disposal site is actually specifically for RW 08. But in reality, it is not, because people dump rubbish there from everywhere, from Condet, Kampung Jawa, RW 7, RW 6, even there,” said Head of RT 2, Titin, when met at his home on Saturday (25/7/2026).
Titin admitted that he has tried to complain to the Environmental Agency (LH) so that the site would be cleared of rubbish. The agency has also frequently transported waste from the location. However, because many outsiders dump their rubbish there, the site always seems to be full.
“It’s like we’ve given up regarding the waste disposal. We have complained to the Environmental Agency, the agency has provided a truck to collect it every day, and there is also an excavator. But the excavator leaves, the truck leaves, and people dump rubbish there non-stop, 24 hours, right? People keep dumping rubbish there again and again, so what can we do?” he explained.
The waste site is located on Jalan Arteri Tanjung Barat. At a distance of only about 30 to 50 metres from residential homes, Titin said residents are disturbed. “Very disturbed, especially now that it’s getting bigger. It used to be small, now the road is getting narrower, so what is the solution?” said Titin.
Titin said the rubbish at the site is transported by truck every day. However, the waste keeps piling up because people never stop dumping there. “It’s routine, it happens every day. It’s just that the truck only collects once every morning. By the afternoon, it’s piled up again until night, until the next day when the truck comes again,” he said.
