Residents Reveal Padel Court Noise in Cilandak Penetrates Their Bedrooms
Residents on Jalan Haji Nawi, Cilandak, South Jakarta, have described the extent of noise pollution from a padel sports facility adjacent to their homes. One resident, Idham, said the noise penetrates right through to their bedrooms.
“The cumulative noise from every contact between racket and ball, the ball bouncing off the glass, off the padel court surface, and frequently hitting the walls of our homes — all those reverberations echo and resonate around our house,” Idham said when contacted on Friday (20/2/2026).
“It reaches the yard, our bedrooms, our children’s bedrooms, the living room — every corner of the house,” he added.
Idham also noted that shouting from players contributes to the disturbance. He described the noise as falling into the high category due to the ball bouncing off glass surfaces.
“There are also frequent shouts or exclamations from the euphoria of the padel players, causing a real and fairly intense disturbance — intense in the sense that the character of the sound is high frequency,” he said.
“It is also quite impulsive — every contact produces a very impulsive sound, quite different from, say, road traffic or a railway line,” he continued.
Idham further stated that residents had never received any community consultation since the padel court’s construction began. There had been no notification from either the neighbourhood association (RT) or community association (RW).
“There was none — no permits and no consultation whatsoever about whether the neighbouring plot would be developed into a padel court or anything else,” he said.
“Nor did the RT or RW ever give any advance notice. It was actually us who reacted and proactively reported matters from the very start of the padel court’s construction,” he added.
Previously, residents in the Haji Nawi area of Cilandak, South Jakarta, had complained about noise generated by activities at a padel court in the neighbourhood. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said he would follow up on the residents’ reports by summoning the relevant stakeholders.
A resident living in the Haji Nawi area posted on the social media platform Threads on Thursday (19/2), complaining about the noise from a padel court business near their home. In the post, they said the noise from the court disrupted their daily activities and those of surrounding residents. They also reported having lodged complaints through the JAKI application and official DKI Jakarta Provincial Government channels, including tagging Governor Pramono Anung’s social media account, but had received no response.
Governor Pramono Anung subsequently addressed the complaint, stating he would summon the facility’s operators and relevant stakeholders to discuss the matter.
Pramono said the summons would be issued in the near future to ensure all licensing and operations of the padel business comply with prevailing regulations.
“Next week I will invite all stakeholders specifically related to padel licensing. I have asked for a presentation to be prepared,” Pramono told journalists at Jakarta City Hall.
