Residents Request Additional Trucks to Reduce Rubbish Piling Up at Rawadas TPS
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Residents around the Temporary Waste Collection Point (TPS) Rawadas, Pondok Kopi, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, are calling on the government to increase the number of rubbish transport trucks. “We hope for at least two transport trucks, so that all the rubbish can be taken away immediately and does not pile up for long,” said local environmental waste officer Manap at TPS Rawadas, East Jakarta, on Tuesday. This request arises from the ongoing rubbish accumulation reaching heights of around two to four metres. The rubbish buildup has occurred since before Eid and has not yet been handled maximally. Residents have complained about the unpleasant smell and the uncomfortable environmental conditions caused by the towering rubbish. Manap said that residents’ complaints arrive every day. He also mentioned that the limited transport fleet is the main obstacle in the process of clearing the rubbish piles. “Residents complain because the rubbish is piling up. We also can’t do much because the vehicles are limited,” said Manap. “Only one has been transported, the rest are still waiting. We also don’t know when the next one will arrive from the department,” Manap explained. Furthermore, he emphasised that one truck fleet is not enough to transport all the existing rubbish, especially when the volume increases as it is now. Therefore, residents hope for an addition of fleets so that transportation can be carried out more quickly and evenly. “The fleet must be increased. If not, it will keep piling up, it’s a pity for the residents, they feel uncomfortable,” Manap stressed. In addition to disrupting comfort, rubbish piles left for too long are also feared to have a negative impact on the health of nearby residents. Manap hopes that the request for additional trucks can receive serious attention from the local government so that waste handling at TPS Rawadas is more optimal and does not continue to cause public complaints. “Today it’s piling up like this because no trucks have docked at the TPS, so the rubbish has piled up to a height of two to four metres,” said RW 02 Chairman of Pondok Kopi, Ninu Hadi Purwanto, in Jakarta, on Tuesday. He mentioned that rubbish from residents continues to pile up without being able to be transported immediately to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST). In addition, said Hadi, the rubbish accumulation also occurs because transport activities have been temporarily halted. Cleaning officers were forced to pile up rubbish at the TPS to keep services to residents running. The main obstacle occurred at TPST Bantargebang. Several trucks that were already loaded with rubbish could not immediately dispose of it, so they had to return to the environmental agency without unloading. As a result of this situation, the volume of rubbish at TPS Rawadas continues to increase. The height of the rubbish inside the TPS reaches three to four metres, while on the roadside area it reaches around two metres.
