Residents frequently using Jalan Lenteng Agung Timur in Kelurahan Srengseng Sawah, South Jakarta, reported the road was already uneven before it collapsed on Thursday, 28 May 2026.

According to resident Sujatmiko (53), the surface of the collapsed section had visibly sunk compared to its previous state.

‘The sinking was clearly visible on Monday, 25 May 2026. The central part near the left side of the road had sunk,’ Sujatmiko told Kompas.com at the site on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

The kelurahan forwarded the report to the Public Works Unit.

On Thursday, 28 May, the sunken road section was patched with asphalt to level the surface.

However, that same night around 10.30pm WIB, the newly asphalted spot collapsed again.

‘It collapsed again in the middle. Probably due to traffic density and vehicle load,’ Sujatmiko said.

Before the sinking, Jalan Lenteng Agung Timur had been undulating since early May, as experienced by Sujatmiko when riding his motorcycle through the area.

He noted that the provincial government had responded quickly to residents’ reports when the road began to sink, but the response was temporary—merely patching the sunken area with asphalt.

He argued that the areas on either side of the sunken section needed further inspection.

‘No one thought to check the hole on the side; it wasn’t inspected internally. When it collapsed, the hole extended all the way to the northern end,’ Sujatmiko said.
