Residents report council member

PEKANBARU: Upset with a Pekanbaru councillor who has allegedly
expropriated their land, residents of Setukul, Tenayan Indah,
reported the case to the police on Friday.

According to local people, the Golkar councillor, Arbaini, has
taken over 300 hectares of their land. The land, they say, has
been in their families for generations, and is used for rubber
plantations.

"Suddenly, the land now belongs to this councillor. We won't
accept it," said Sumadi, one of the residents.

He said the land had recently been given by Arbaini to the
Pekanbaru municipal administration, which plans to use it for the
construction of the Siak III bridge. -- JP
