JAKARTA — Residents have reported that railings and metal barriers on a bridge along Jembatan Goyang road in Pademangan, North Jakarta, have been disappearing for roughly one year.

A local resident named Denny, 50, stated that the bridge railings began going missing shortly after the bridge access was restricted due to a nearby construction project. “About half of the railings have already gone missing,” he said when met by Kompas.com on Tuesday (10 March 2026). “Given the location, you can’t be sure where people come from. It’s definitely a risky area.”

He suspected three individuals were involved in the railing thefts at Jembatan Goyang. “Ever since then, the railings haven’t been recovered from the bridge. This suggests the people responsible are probably from around here,” he added.

Saputra, 35, a security officer in the area, confirmed that the bridge railings have been disappearing for quite some time. He reported that metal scavengers began removing the railings after the bridge access was restricted due to the project. “The project started while the road was still passable by car. Then midway through the project, vehicle access was closed, and that’s when the thefts started,” he said. “I’ve personally witnessed it twice and even collected evidence — there were two metal bars if I remember correctly.”

According to observations by Kompas.com at the site on Tuesday (10 March 2026), the bridge connects R.E. Martadinata road with Lodan Raya road. Two orange road barriers are positioned at the bridge access from R.E. Martadinata road. On the Lodan Raya side, the road access is blocked by Toll Harbour Road II construction barriers with only a 10-metre gap for entry.

The approximately 50-metre bridge railing now retains less than half of its original length. The missing sections have left only the corroded railing posts remaining.
