Residents Queue to Wish Jokowi Happy Birthday at His Solo Home

The residence of the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), in Sumber, Banjarsari, Solo, was swarmed by the public on his 65th birthday. Members of the community had been queuing since early morning, willing to wait for a chance to meet Jokowi.

As reported by Detdet, various floral arrangements and orchids were displayed in front of Jokowi’s house. Some groups also brought ‘tumpeng’ (traditional cone-shaped rice) to be shared with the gathered crowd.

Jokowi met with the public and shook hands with those in attendance. The crowd gathered to offer their birthday wishes directly to him.

“Where are you from?” Jokowi greeted the arriving citizens while extending his hand for handshakes on Sunday (21/06).

A resident named Gibran from Boyolali admitted he had intentionally attended Jokowi’s birthday celebration. He stated that he had been in Solo since last Friday (19/06).

“It was very exciting; I got ‘nasi urap’ and iced tea. I happened to be on holiday in Solo, so I decided to come along,” he said.

Gibran arrived at Jokowi’s house around 09:00 WIB and immediately joined a group of other residents. He mentioned that he had not yet had the chance to sightsee and chose to head straight to Jokowi’s residence.

“I arrived at 9 am. Then I immediately joined this group, heading straight here,” he said.

Due to the high level of public enthusiasm, he admitted he did not manage to shake hands with Jokowi.

“I didn’t get a turn because it was so crowded and busy. This is just the queue for photos,” he added.
