Residents Queue for Cheap Sembako in Ciganjur, Rp150,000 Package Sold for Rp100,000
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A number of residents queued for the subsidised basic groceries redemption programme at Balai Warga Ciganjur, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Thursday 5 March 2026. Kompas.com observed residents lining up neatly in the balai warga’s courtyard area behind barrier ropes.
Most of those arriving were housewives carrying coupons to redeem the cheaper sembako package. Some who had already received their packages were seen carrying orange shopping bags containing essential goods.
One resident, Usnaini, 54, said the programme was helpful because the sembako package offered was cheaper than market prices. ‘The price is much cheaper. The queue is also quick,’ Usnaini said.
Gubernur DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung also visited the distribution of the cheap sembako.
In the event, 500 sembako packages were provided to residents through the cheap sembako redemption programme, a collaboration between residents’ initiative and Perumda Pasar Jaya. ‘Today I visited and spoke to residents at the distribution of the cheap sembako package, a collaboration between community initiative and Perumda Pasar Jaya. Here, 500 packages were distributed,’ Pramono said.
He noted that the value of one sembako package is around Rp150,000, but residents only need to pay Rp100,000 to obtain it. ‘Why are we doing this? It is in the spirit of sharing,’ he said.
Agus Himawan, Chief Executive of Perumda Pasar Jaya, said the sembako packages contain a number of essential goods. He detailed that each package includes rice, cooking oil, wheat flour, and sugar.
During the event, residents also received free reading glasses from organisations supporting the distribution of cheap sembako.”
