Residents Protest Dust from Roadworks in Parungpanjang, Briefly Block Project Trucks

A number of residents briefly blocked road access in Jagabaya village, Parungpanjang district, Bogor, West Java. The action was taken because residents were angered by dust caused by road repairs.

In circulating video footage, residents can be seen blocking the road by burning tyres. Residents can also be heard ordering trucks carrying road repair materials to turn back. Traffic flow appeared to come to a halt while the road was blocked.

Parungpanjang police chief Kompol M Taufik said the incident occurred on Wednesday evening (12/8). The road repairs had affected residents by generating dust that disrupted their activities.

“We can convey that this occurred as a result of the impact on local residents from the road repair activities, which caused residents to experience a great deal of billowing dust,” Taufik said on Thursday (13/8/2026).

The road repairs were being carried out by a private party, and the road being repaired falls under the category of a provincial road. A number of measures have been taken to minimise the dust.

“Steps have already been taken to prevent or minimise the dust through watering by the road repair contractor. But this was felt to be insufficient, so residents requested that the intensity and technique of the watering be increased to reduce the dust,” he explained.

Police and relevant agencies then immediately went to the location. They subsequently facilitated a meeting between residents and the project manager.

“We were present at the location together with the sub-district head and the military sub-district commander. Alhamdulillah, we facilitated the conveying of residents’ grievances to the road repair organiser,” he said.

After the meeting was held, an agreement was reached between both parties. Taufik said the situation gradually became conducive, although traffic flow at the location had been temporarily disrupted.

“It was agreed last night that the project manager would carry out watering on the road and that efforts would be made to accelerate the project from the original target of completion in November, with efforts to finish by October,” he added.
