Residents' Panic as Kemayoran Fire Spreads to Multiple Homes
The residential fire on Kemayoran Gempol Street in Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, has been extinguished. Residents recounted their panic as flames spread to multiple homes.
DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat) Chief Bayu Meghantara confirmed adequate water supply at the scene, allowing the fire to be put out after seven hours of firefighting efforts. “Several residents were taken to hospital with minor injuries and smoke inhalation,” Bayu told Antara on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
During firefighting operations, residents evacuated valuables to Jusuf Hamka Field, the designated evacuation site. Supriatin, Secretary of the Combined RT 12-16 RW04 Kebon Kosong, described the panic when flames approached his home. “I had just returned from working as a ride-hailing driver when the fire was already large. I panicked because my wife was ill at home,” he said. Supriatin added his wife suffered shortness of breath due to thick smoke but all three family members were safe.
Current data indicates approximately 250 homes and 330 households were affected. Authorities continue to manage the situation and conduct assessments. The fire, which started on Monday (1/6) at 8:55 PM WIB, was fully extinguished by 4:15 AM WIB. The Jakarta Fire Command Centre reported deployment of 35 units and 175 personnel. The cause of the fire and final casualty figures remain unknown.
