Residents Panic Again as Flores Hit by Aftershocks
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has recorded more than 3,400 aftershocks in the Flores and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region as of Thursday (20/8) morning. The death toll has also risen to 72. Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Lieutenant General Suharyanto said aftershocks could still occur for the next two to three weeks. According to BMKG monitoring, the aftershocks tend to be of smaller magnitude than the main earthquake. Suharyanto urged the public not to panic, but to remain vigilant.
