Residents of Pasar Senen Shocked by Prabowo's Visit: Wants to Step on the Tracks
JAKARTA - Several residents living along the railway tracks in the Pasar Senen area, Central Jakarta, expressed their happiness when Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited their neighbourhood yesterday, Thursday (26/3/2026). Local residents described the arrival of the country’s top leader as a first-time experience in their lifetimes. “Who is the number one person in Indonesia (the President), right? He wants to, what, step on the tracks like that,” said Wawan, quoted from a press release by the Government Communication Agency (Bakom), Friday (27/3/2026). When Prabowo arrived, the residents in the slum settlement along the Pasar Senen railway tracks felt greatly cared for. “Please help with housing. Provide proper housing for us,” Wawan said. Another resident, Fani, also admitted to being moved and very pleased with Prabowo’s visit yesterday. “This is the first time he’s come here. I was so touched, almost cried when I heard. It feels so good, happy in my heart,” Fani shared. In addition, Cono, a local resident, expressed surprise at the spontaneous visit of the President of Indonesia. Cono said he had a direct conversation with Prabowo and shared his life story. Prabowo is also said to want to build high-rise housing for the local residents. “Pak Prabowo said, would you like us to build high-rise housing? I said yes, Pak. Because I don’t have a place to live. That’s how it is here,” he revealed. Warmly, Prabowo also shook hands with the children at the location. “Are you still in school?” Prabowo asked, immediately met with enthusiasm from the children as they jostled to shake hands with President Prabowo.
