Residents of Lepar Island Finally Gain Internet Access

Residents of Lepar Island, a small island in Bangka Belitung, have finally gained access to internet services. The internet connection provides access to online learning resources, information, and digital public services. Improved stability is expected to enhance daily learning activities and productivity for residents. PLN Icon Plus has introduced ICONNET fixed broadband services on Lepar Island in Bangka Belitung. The internet network aims to expand digital connectivity across the archipelago while supporting education and improving local human resource quality. Lepar Island, located off the southeast coast of Bangka Island, previously had limited internet access. ICONNET is now the sole fixed broadband service available and utilised by residents in the area. Chipta Perdana, CEO of PLN Icon Plus, stated that connectivity is a crucial need for communities, including those in island regions. He added that reliable communication access can unlock more opportunities for personal development. “Connectivity is a fundamental foundation for accessing education and various personal development opportunities. PLN Icon Plus is committed to ensuring communities in island areas like Lepar can sustainably benefit from this,” Chipta said in a written statement recently. Chipta believes digital access must be further equalised to prevent remote communities from falling behind in technological progress. The internet service on Lepar Island is also expected to foster a more inclusive digital ecosystem in Bangka Belitung. Through strengthening digital infrastructure in island regions, PLN Icon Plus reaffirmed its commitment to expanding national connectivity access. “This step is expected to provide long-term benefits for communities, particularly in education and local digital economic development,” he added.
