Residents occupy palm oil plantation

PADANG, West Sumatra: About 100 residents of Koto Gadang Jaya
in Pasaman district were still occupying a palm oil plantation
belonging to PT Tri Sangga Guna on Friday.

The residents have been in the area since Tuesday, demanding
the company settle a land dispute that reportedly began in 1971.

The group claimed traditional ownership of the land and asked
for a fair share of the harvest of the plantation crops.

Details of the dispute were not available, but the plantation
employees reportedly had left the area, fearing possible attack
