Resident's house in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, destroyed by fire

A fire broke out at a resident’s house on Jalan Haji Kelik, RT 04/RW 08, Kelapa Dua, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, on Sunday afternoon.

The fire is believed to have originated from a shed used to store unused items, and then spread to other parts of the house.

“According to the homeowner, what caught fire was a saung (small hut) storing unused items,” said Syaiful Kahfi, Head of Operations Section at the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department, when confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday.

He said his office received information about the fire from local residents at around 5.15 p.m. Western Indonesia Time.

“Initially, at around 5.10 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, the homeowner heard his child shouting that a fire had broken out on the second floor of the house. At that point, the fire had already begun to grow,” said Syaiful.

After battling the blaze for approximately half an hour, the fire was successfully brought under control.

“The operation was completed at 5.53 p.m. Western Indonesia Time,” said Syaiful.

As a result of the fire, one family of seven people has lost their home.

“There were no fatalities or injuries,” Syaiful added.
