Residents Hopeful Over Jakarta's 'Love Lock' Bridge Plan

Residents have welcomed the Jakarta provincial government’s plan to build a ‘Gembok Cinta’ (Love Lock) bridge in the Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, viewing it as a potential new attraction for the city. The bridge is planned to be built over the Cideng River, directly in front of the Merah Putih KPK building, and will be a dedicated structure so as not to disturb passers-by. “Yes, because if it were on a pedestrian bridge (JPO), it would probably disturb people heading to Transjakarta or the LRT. So it’s good if the plan is for it to be over the river,” said a resident named Kinan (25) when met on Jalan HR Rasuna Said on Sunday (5/7/2026). Kinan felt the idea was good and would resemble similar love lock bridges abroad. She also expressed hope that the Cideng River would be tidied up alongside the construction, making it clean and odourless. Another resident, Fadlan (29), agreed with the location and requested the bridge be built wider than standard pedestrian bridges. He also hoped the river would be kept clean and that visitors would maintain its cleanliness. Fadlan, who works in the area, said he would consider attaching a lock if the bridge becomes viral. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung previously stated the bridge would connect Jalan HR Rasuna Said with Jalan Kuningan Persada and serve as an expression space for the capital’s youth. He confirmed the concept was deliberately not placed on a pedestrian bridge to avoid disrupting daily foot traffic.
