Residents Hope JIS Station Opens New Economic Opportunities Around the Stadium

JAKARTA — Residents hope that the operation of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) Station in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, targeted to commence in June 2026, will open new economic opportunities.

The presence of the station is seen as enhancing community mobility and attracting potential customers for businesses in the surrounding area.

One coffee vendor, Ojos (46), stated that the arrival of the JIS Station is expected to bring positive impacts on residents’ incomes.

He believes that the increased mobility around the station can be utilised by residents to start businesses. Ojos even plans to sell near the JIS Station once its construction is complete.

“Then later, I also want to park near the JIS Station to earn more money,” he added.

Moreover, Ojos expressed delight that the station’s presence will facilitate his mobility. He mentioned being able to walk from his home in Rusun Kampung Bayam if he wants to use the KRL.

Similar sentiments were shared by another resident of Rusun Kampung Bayam, Edi (70). He expressed happiness at seeing the construction of the JIS Station nearing completion, as it will ease transportation access.

“I’m happy because the station will be close. Previously, to take the train, I had to go from Tanjung Priok and transfer vehicles,” he explained.

Therefore, Edi hopes that the station’s operation can be accelerated so that residents can benefit from it sooner.

“In May this month, next month hopefully the KRL for JIS will also be completed, so that in June it becomes a birthday gift for Jakarta,” said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (9/4/2026).
